Regency
859 to 863

After the Death of Kenneth MacAlpin, his Brother Donald followed him to the Throne.
His Regency was only five years (until 863), in which he created the law ‘Laws of Aedh’. In this, among other things, the ‘Tanistry tradition’ confirmed. This tradition -which is based on a pictish System- states that already during the Reign the Successor is determined by an Election and is called tanaiste rig (Second beside the King).

Donald’s exact Cause of Death is unknown, but he is believed to be the last of the MacAlpin Dynasty to sleep peacefully in his bed. He was also buried on Iona.
