Kenneth III. -Dubh’s Son and Grandson of Malcolm I.- was the last King to be chosen according to the Tanistry Tradition.
To ensure that the Claim to power remains in the Alpine Dynasty, he appointed his Son Giric as his Successor.

The Killings and Intrigues that brought Kenneth to Power also did him the wrong.
In order to come to Force himself, Kenneth and his Son Giric were killed in 1005 by Malcolm II. -who saw himself as the Son of Kenneth II. as a legitimate Successor- during a Battle at Monzievaird. Thereafter, Malcolm ordered the assassination of the remaining Sons of Kenneth III. to secure the Throne of his Grandson Duncan.

The Daughter of Kenneth´s Son Bodeh (Grouch), was married in the first marriage to the Mormaer of Moray Gillacomgain, from the Son Lulach descended. After Gillacomgain, Grouch made a marriage with the future King Macbeth.
